Dubu Dubu Seoul Food | Midvalley

I was craving for Korean Food the other day and can't manage to get a place in Ko Hyang @ The Gardens.   While walking and thinking what to have, I bumped into this new Korean Food outlet-Dubu Dubu. Dubu in Korean means Tofu, and this restaurant wants to bring us healthy traditional cuisine using tofu, bean paste, chillies, garlic and thick soothing broths. This is also a Halal Korean restaurant.

There is always a leaflet on the table to teach you how to enjoy your soondubu in case you are new to Korean food.

The service was really really slow. We got our meals after 40 mins and there weren't many customers that day, around 6 tables only. If you are looking for a fast meal, you would be better off going somewhere else I think.
  Korean Spicy Chicken Set-RM 17.90
The spicy chicken is quite nice except that it is very spicy, but you can actually count the number of chicken chunks, which means the majority of the dish is actually vegetables and are some kind of white dough which is hard to chew (*hard to digest too I guess*). In the end, all of the white dough is left uneaten; at this price, it's not that worth to order this dish.

 Bulgogi Chicken Set-RM17.90
The chicken bulgogi tastes quite nice at first but as you keep going at it, the flavour eventually "runs flat". The onions were cut slightly too big chunks which gave me hard time to chew and swallow. As for the banchan (side dishes), I didn't really like all of it.

I love korean food but the two dishes I ordered were kinda disappointing. Maybe I will come back again to try out their soondubu jigae next time.

Johor Trip Day 3 | Muar

When you visit a new place, I'm willing to bet that you have at some point asked this question: "What's good to eat in this area?" So we did when we visited Muar and after some searching we found that many people do recommend this particular restaurant in Muar city, to eat the famous Muar assam fish that everyone's talking about.
As a person from KL who had no prior knowledge of Muar's roads, I would say that it was sure a hard time for us to find this road as the road does not exist in our GPS (maybe it's time to get a new one =D ). It turns out that it is actually quite easy to find this place if you turn in from the main road Jalan Bentayan; you can search the exact coordinates N02°02.788' E102°34.729' in google maps.

The restaurant's operating hours are from Monday to Sunday 11.00am - 9.00pm; they are closed on Thursdays except if that particular Thursday is a holiday.

These pictures really do not do them justice, but their interior is really not that bad; it's just a basic homely restaurant. My photographer probably wasn't in a mood for pictures after a hefty attempt to find the place. Before you can be seated, we were asked to go into their kitchen to choose on the seafood as well as dishes we would like to order. All seafood will be charge according to the weight.

Assam Fish-RM15.20
The popular dish here. It is really sour and spicy, perfect for those who love the two combinations. BF really liked this as he finished all the soup. However, truth to be told, although this do not taste bad, I do not find it to be extraordinary enough for you to travel all the way from KL to Muar just to get a taste of it. However, soon after the trip my friend recommended us a assam fish around 20 minutes drive away from Muar city. Maybe we'll come back again in the future to try that restaurant out.

Garlic Stir Fried Vegetables - RM 5

Fried Sotong - RM 10
We also ordered some fried sotong. Crispy, but slightly hard, the portion is big enough for three persons. Again, I don't think this dish is something to shout about. Nevertheless they have many other choices of seafood to try. As we were only 2 persons the choices we have are quite limited.

In case if you decided to stop by in Muar, you could also consider to buy some famous otak-otak here. It is really close to Restaurant Merlin, also at Jalan Bentayan.
The name of the shop is A-class Otak-Otak Products, a corner lot near to the round about at Jalan Bentayan. You won't miss the big red signboard you can see from far away.
The place is very clean, and they have an assortment of products for you to choose. I would say that their otak-otak tastes quite good, but the price is slightly expensive that is on par with KL's prices. You can taste the chunks of fish meat in the otak-otak, but personally I can't tell the difference between prawn, fish, crab or the higher grade fish otak-otak. So whichever choices you make I would say it is quite safe.

They'll ask you whether are you taking it back to KL, and they'll wrap it up nicely for you to retain the temperature of the products. Again, I wouldn't advice you to leave it in your car under the baking sun for too long in case if you stop by for a break along the highway.

Carabao Restaurant | Johor Bahru

This wasn't my first time to visit the place, but I decided to revisit the place to write about their food. The place is located beside New York Hotel in JB town area, very close to the famous KSL city. It is kinda hard to spot the place except the landmark of New York Hotel especially at night. I missed it while trying to find their signboard; luckily I remembered the place by their wooden house. However, the place has limited parking space, so you can either go early or park at the roadside.
"The name CARABAO actually means ‘Buffalo’ in Tagolog, and the idea was conceived during an inspiring trip to Chengmai in year 2002. The founderAndi decided to name his business venture after his Harley Davidson Biker's friend who by incident is also the name of the famous Thai Rock Band with Folk Style Music - CARABAO."

Anyway, their service that day was kinda bad. We were standing at their entrance for more than 10 mins and no one show up to even to greet us. Really gave us a bad impression.
Click HERE for the full menu.

The whole place is made from wood is decorated with teak wood furniture, a unique and relaxing ambiance to their customers. The architecture is an inspirational mix of Malaysian and Thai styles.

Tom Yam Seafood Soup-RM 15.90
Tom Yam Soup was nice but very spicy, much spicier than I expected. In fact, if I rate the spiciness between 1 to 10, I'd give it 11! Even I have to surrender to the spicy, really authentic Thai Tom Yam. Ironically, that is the best part of the Tom Yam, hot, sour and leaving you craving for more! You really should bring some friends who are "spicy-savvy" as the potion is enough for 3 persons. Try it out if it is your first time.

Chicken Kar Pau-RM14.90
It looks like the Chinese Kung Po Chicken at first but when we try it on, it truly something special to us. We never tried this kind of unique taste before, not even the same as the one we tried in Phuket. I love the taste but again the chilli is killing my tongue... Really have to think twice before ordering anything spicy on their menu. Nevertheless, the dish is top notch and I'd encourage you to try it.

Fried Sweet Potato Leaf with Garlic- RM10.90
They forgot about our order of stir fried vegetables that day. Their service was quite bad that day and we didn't really enjoy it. The fried sweet potatoes leaf taste normal, luckily we ordered this dish without chilli (you can order it stir-fried with belacan, of course), at least balanced the whole meal without killing our stomach that day!

Will I come back again? Of course I will, to try out other dishes but I'll be more cautions when ordering. I really do love the authenticity of their dishes. :)
