The Zun Express | The Garden ( Renovated)

Although this shop have been here quite sometime, but I never visited the place before. I purposely pay a visit here after some good comments on the food. It is actually a restaurant open by Eu Yang Sang and located at the lower ground floor of The Garden, the road leading to Midvalley.

It is famous for their nourishing soups, eventually I did not try any of it because I was craving for fried rice that day. I will come back to try one day. My mom said the soup was nice and healthy.

Honey Dew Sago-RM4.80
The honey dew sago come with very mild and watery base of milk with honey dew and sago in it. It taste very refreshing and sweetness was just nice. But if you like strong taste, I wouldn't recommend you to try as the taste was really really mild.

Fried Rice wrapped with Lotus Leaf-RM12.80
I can said this is the most healthy lotus leaf rice I can find so far. Most of the time, lotus leaf will be cook together with glutinous rice which is not good for our health. But this is cook with rice instead of glutinous rice, a more healthy style of eating. The taste was there, very nice. The rice wasn't that sticky but still it do form the shape without falling apart and the best part it wasn't too oily. I definitely give it a thumb up.

Fried Rice with Superior Sauce-RM13.80
I thought I was ordering a fried rice but instead it come to be like a porridge. Most of us address it as Man Fan. I wasn't expecting that and thought the chef will use some superior sauce to fried the rice. Anyway, it taste quite nice. I would prefer it is cook with noodles like those ying yong rather than rice, then it would be prefect. But still it is a good dish to try out.

Bandung Trip -Day 1

On the 18th-21st July 2012, a last minute decision, I choose to go Bandung, Indonesia to give myself a break. My friend asked, of so many places why do I choose Bandung. Reason very easy, I wanted to go Indonesia but at that time , Bandung has the lowest flight fare I can get compare to Jakarta. I booked 3.45pm flight however AirAsia delay until 6.10pm that day. AirAsia compensate the delay with a bottle of mineral water and a McChicken. I guessed it was really a bad luck for me to start for the trip.

Finally, I boarded the plane after 2 and half hour of delay and reached bandung airport around 7 something Indonesia time which is 1 hour early than Malaysia time. The airport is small, the exit is just around 20 steps from the entrance. No Bandung maps provided at the airport, it is advisable to bring your own.

I have booked Holiday Inn, Bandung earlier and they were having some promotion at that time. They offered complimentary pick up and drop off service to the airport, free membership card, free beverages from mini bar and free wifi at the lobby. Luckily I booked Holiday Inn with free pick up that cut some of my worry to arrive hotel after a long delay from AirAsia.

Why do I booked Holiday Inn where there are some many more hotels in Bandung which cost much more lower? Yes, I know that. After a long finding in Bandung hotels, I make my mind to book Holiday Inn because:
1. Convenient. It is located in the middle of all those Factory Outlets (Jalan Dago and Jalan Riau) which I could just reach within walking distance. I could save a lot on the taxi fees plus when I get lost, the street people could easily lead me to my hotel.
2. Safety. Holiday Inn is a four star hotel in Bandung and is well known all over the world. I believe at least the place I sleep is safe and I wouldn't get a bang in the middle of the night by any stranger. Everytime a taxi or a car arrived the gate, one of the security guard at the hotel will use a steel bar to scan through the car to ensure no bombs are carry. Kinda scary..
3. Clean. Cleanliness of the room and bathroom are must for me. I cant sleep in a room full of smell.

Plus the price wasn't that costly too, with RM220++ you get a 4 star hotel is quite cheap. Around RM300++ you can get a 5 star hotel in Bandung compare to other places.

Let see the room, I booked a deluxe room with breakfast for two.

I got info from the hotel driver that all the factory outlets start from 9am-9pm. Since I arrived quite late that day, I wasn't planing to visited anyone of it. After check in and settle down, I walked along Jalan Dago to find food for dinner. I decided to dine at KFC which is around 10 minutes walk from hotel.

What I like the most in KFC whenever I visited Indonesia is this-Colonel Yakiniku. So far I see only Indonesia's KFC selling it. It is some kind of Japanese's bento with rice, fried chicken with black pepper sauce and  salad. The price is the lowest among all other items and that can fill up my stomach with out ordering any extra. It is only Rp 20,000 around RM 6.90
I love this a lot because I can't find it in Malaysia. :D

Besides, we also ordered their Super Big Set 2 meal. It come with 2 pieces of chicken, a rice and a carbonated drink. We requested both chicken thigh but was rejected because the worker said the meal has to come with a big piece and a small piece of chicken. :( This won't happen in Malaysia except McDonalds. I guess rice is their main food in Indonesia, all set meal will come with rice whether you like it or not, no smash potatoes, no salad even you wish for add on. The price wasn't cheap, cost Rp 40,908 around RM14.10 without 10% tax yet.

We ordered extra Fish Fillet Burger, look quite small but slightly bigger than Malaysia's colonel burger. It cost Rp 11,000 around RM3.80 after tax. The price still reasonable. The taste I can said much more better than Mcd Fillet o Fish. :)

Besides, they also provide free wifi and even an internet corner with 3 computers for you to browse website in case you need it. This is quite convenient for travelers like me.

Japin Restaurant | 1st Avenue

This wasn't my 1st time to review this restaurant in Penang. The 1st time was last year about Japin Restaurant in Queensbay (http://sufentan88.blogspot.com/2011/01/japin-restaurant.html) and I come back to this restaurant again but this time was in 1st Avenue, Penang. It is located at the lower ground floor of 1st Avenue. Why I choose to review again? The previous review wasn't complete as I was still new on food blogging at that time and I was thinking I should give them a new chance to try out their food again.

All order have to be written down on the paper provided which is a bit different from last time (waiter takes order).

Their menu cover still look the same. For the menu, I think they have added a few new items.

Promotion menu still on but different items and the price is higher now compare to a year ago.
We ordered all the promotion menu items since we are not so hungry at that time and just wanted to fill up the stomach before we go for movie as we know that normally promotional items come in smaller portion. All promotion menu come with a bowl of soup, a slice of watermelon and a drink (hot tea/ cold tea/ lime).

Fried Chicken Chop with Egg Set-RM13.80
Fried Chicken was wrap with egg and onion. This set taste not bad, brother loves the egg with onion inside. The fried chicken was a whole thigh chicken if not mistaken, it is much worth to go for the promotion menu where the ala carte already cost RM15.80.

Terriyaki Chicken Set-RM13.80
Grilled chicken terriyaki with some vegetables at the side. The Terriyaki sauce was a bit sweet but still acceptable when it is combine with the rice. The portion wasn't big but enough for a normal person.

Mix Meat BBQ Rice Set-RM15.80
It is a special item from the promotion menu which I couldn't find it in from the ala carte menu. It is a mix meat of pork, chicken and beef, but you can request to remove beef/ pork if you do not want it. They will replace with the other two meats. I see this set quite worth of money if you are a meat lover. The portion was quite the same as the ala carte.

The food served in this outlet I can said it is much more better compare to Queensbay's outlet. I have been to Queensbay's outlet for few times but the food the same. I guess I will come over here next time when I visit 1st Avenue again. Anyway, from the menu cover, I saw they have another outlet in Sungai Wang, KL. I probably will try it out one day.

Fugu Neo Japanese Restaurant | Damansara Jaya

My friend brought me to a new Japanese restaurant near the once-known Atria Shopping Centre site in Damansara Jaya -- it's name is Fugu, which is located at the row of shops exactly behind Public Bank. It shouldn't be too hard to find and parking is ample even on weekends. The place was pretty packed on the evening as many families were there to enjoy there dinner. Let's see why this Japanese restaurant has just made it to my list of must try restaurants!

Age Tofu (Deep Fried Tofu)-RM8
Tip: Age Tofu does not refer to how old the tofu is! =) This is pronounced as "Ah-Geh" Tofu, with the "G" being pronounced as you would in "Guns". I really love this appetizer in all Japanese restaurants, but Fugu just makes it slightly more special as the tempura batter doesn't get soggy and breaks off when it is dipped in the soy sauce. Surprisingly the outer batter remains crispy even after we left it in soy sauce while we were enjoying our main dishes. Must try!

Saba Shioyaki (Grilled Mackerel with salt)-RM25
This Mackerel is really the main reason why we visited Fugu. Correct me if i'm wrong, but we really couldn't find this in any other Japanese restaurant. The mackerel is grilled to perfection and is available as an ala-carte item only. Although only one side of the fish has meat, but don't worry because the portion is really big and is really good to be enjoyed with a bowl of rice for a single person. You may pay slightly more in total, but I find this combination to work as I observed many people who do not like the side dishes that come with Japanese restaurants' set meals. Furthermore, the meat remains extremely juicy and tender as it is grilled together with the bones, which adds further flavour to it. Certainly a must try item for all fish lovers.

Curry Torikatsu Set (Curry Chicken Cutlet Set)-RM24
The Curry Torikatsu set is also very satisfying and certainly big in portion. It tastes quite good, and comes with lots of potatoes, and if you notice that the potato salad comes as a separate item from the regular vegetable salad. Many Japanese restaurants do not do this as they only offer one item at a time, and combined with Chawanmushi, Miso soup and some fruits, I'd say RM24 is certainly worth it for this set meal. Must try item if you happen to be a Japanese curry lover.

KFC Green Curry

With advertisements all over the media, I believe all should have known that KFC have recently promoted their new item called Green Curry. They even came out with a slogan "So Authentic, Even The Thais Want It.", make it sound so delicious. So, does it really taste so good until it is comparable to the authentic Thailand's green curry? Then, we really have to try it out ourselves. Let see what is my finding.

I have ordered the Green Curry Combo which cost me RM 12.60 incl. tax. The Green Curry Combo come with 2 pieces of chicken either original or spicy, a bowl of rice, a small cup of green curry and a regular carbonated drink.
I ordered the spicy chickens which are more crunchy than the original taste and it wasn't spicy at all. About the green curry, it does really taste like the thai's green curry except lack of some spiciness and the curry aroma. Do I think the slogan fits as stated in the advertisement? I can only said doesn't your mom always tell you never believe the advertisement in TV? :) It is a good trying, so far I can said it does taste good for a fast-food restaurant to serve such authentic dish.

Organic Recipe | Casa Utama

I was introduced by my friend to come over here since I like vegetarian food so much, here is one of the must visited place for vegetarian food. It is located at Casa Utama , a place that I hardly visit. The road leading to the restaurant is bit dark at night, but do look for the below sign. The shop is inside a building where you need to pay parking fee at the entrance. RM5 note must be prepared to slot into the machine and a receipt will be issued. Keep the receipt until the end of your bill and the restaurant will deduct the RM5 from your bill as a free parking for you.

After you have park your car, search for this signboard to lead you to the restaurant.

Here is the look of the restaurant. You can choose to sit outside with cold wind blowing at night or sit inside with air-con.

Tao Gan Taufu-RM11.90(small), RM14.90(big)
This bean curb is nice. The taste really hard to describe as I never come across with this kind of taste before. A bit spicy and sweet, really great combination taste. Must try!

Vegetarian Fish Roll with special sauce-RM 12.90(small), RM15.90(big)
Special Sauce for the fish roll come with a bit spicy. The fish roll they make it taste so real, I thought I was having real meat. For those who are scare of "veggie" title, I bet you might be impressed with this dish. Overall very good, a big like to it. Must try!

 Mixed Asparagus-RM11.90(small), RM14.90 (big)
I never like asparagus because of the smell, but this one impressed me. They cooked it until very crunchy but  at the same time it is well cooked. I manage to finished it until the last piece. Must try!

After you have finished your meal, they will serve you their home made dessert. It is some kind of jelly but the upper part taste pandan and the below part is make with coconut flesh. Quite nice and refreshing, not sweet at all.

From the photos above, it is a portion of two pax. All dishes are ordered in small portion. If you come with a big group of 10, I guess you might need to order more dishes as all the dishes are served in quite small portions.

Bar B. Q Plaza | Paradigm Mall

I bought the set voucher for Bar.B.Q Plaza to try it out recently. To my surprise there was quite a number of vouchers being sold, and the waiter in Paradigm Mall greeted us to check our voucher details against their list of people who have bought the vouchers on LivingSocial. I guess their efforts to stay organized was to be commended, and we found our name on the list without any problems.

For those who don't know, Bar.B.Q Plaza is a chain restaurant from Thailand. As the name implies, you would normally barbeque the food yourself on a hot plate and eat whenever you feel like it. The concept is actually quite simple when you take a look at the pictures below:

Supreme Pork Set-RM31.90 (voucher bought at RM18)
The voucher entitles you to choose either the Beef set or the Supreme Pork set. Unable to eat beef, we chose the latter which you can see above. I would say the portion wasn't really enough, as when we grill the food they will shrink considerably.

Here you can see the food being cooked on top of the hot plate. At the sides are the "soup" which tastes really mild where you can cook your mini steamboat. You can easily control the gas stove's temperature, just be careful not to overcook your food to a crisp. After the food is ready, it is basically quite tasteless unless you dip it in the provided BBQ sauce. Honestly, I don't like it very much because all I tasted was the sauce and nothing like the food. I would strongly prefer food that has been seasoned before they were grilled.

The place was kind of packed with customers. We had to wait in a line until it was our turn. I guess the restaurant was quite popular with people nowadays.

Watermelon Squash-RM4.00

Honey Peach Lemon-RM4.90
The drinks however are quite worth it. RM 4-5 for a big cup. I love both drinks very much, highly recommended!

Soft Shell Crab-RM9.90
As we felt that the portion of the Supreme Pork set was not enough, we ordered an extra serving of soft shell crab fried with oats. It tastes really good, especially the oats which were kind of sweet. However, after a few pieces you start to feel less enthusiastic as it is quite oily.

Fried Chicken Wing Lemongrass-RM7.90
The same goes to the fried chicken wing with lemongrass. It tastes really good on the first bite, but after a while you can really get tired of it. I guess the key here is to eat in moderate amounts with a few other people.

Nevertheless, is the whole meal worth it? We bought the voucher for RM18, and adding up the side dishes, drinks, rice and taxes, we had to pay an additional RM31.90 for everything. Overall, RM50 for two persons isn't really worth it in my opinion... I don't think I will be back anytime in the near future.
