Cameron Trip-Day 3

Day 3 before we start our journey back to KL. We checked out in the morning so that we could enjoy our breakfast in Tanah Rata. I saw from the net that many people reviewed about this place. How can I miss the place where good food is served?

Uncle Chow Kopitiam is the only kopitiam at that area where you can easily spotted. They placed a lot of signboards throughout Tanah Rata. I just follow the signboard to reach the place.
I was greeted by Uncle Chow from far when I walk in. He is very friendly and introduce us their famous dishes from the menu.

Hot Tea to start our last morning in Cameron.
We would not have time to enjoy this kind of morning once we are back to the busy city. I really miss those time I could have morning tea.

Curry Laksa-RM8.90
How good is it? Try it yourself! :)
To me, I think it is more to Curry chicken with mee.
The curry is very thick, different from those Thai's curry laksa. Very special and nice!

Nasi Lemak-RM8.90
Nasi Lemak with rendang chicken, my favourite!
The chilli was not very spicy, do not worry for those who can not take spicy food.
From my experience of taking nasi lemak for more than 20 years, I rated this above average.:)

Fried Kuey Teow-RM6.00
This is not their famous dish, but I still order because I saw bloggers reviewed about it.
Is it nice? Not really.
Not wonder they did not rate good for themselves on this dish.
The kuey teow is quite oily and doesn't bring the aroma.
I recommend to order those Uncle Chow recommended which are items from No 1-5 in their menu.

We went back to the Market stalls near Equatorial Hotel to buy some fresh flower and vegetables. Vegetables were sold quite cheap there. There have different kind of prices like 10 packets for RM10, 3 for RM10 and 4 for RM10. It depend what type of vegetables you are looking for and the quatities.

Before we continue our journey back, we visited the Rose Valley.
 Entrance Fee: RM4 per person.
A good place to take photos. Lots of different kind of flowers inside.  Really beautiful.

After Rose Valley, we planned to drive straight back to KL without any stop since it is quite late for us. But then, I was too attracted to the Chocolate Shop at Green View Garden. Unfortunately, the chocolate shop is not open that day. So I went in Green View Garden to have a look at the place.

They do sell some products like chocolates, strawberry jam, snack and etc. The attracted part is there is a cafe selling dessert. All the menu emphasize on their strawberry. *Blink* Food! Oh yes, immediately I start thinking what to order on my mind. hehe..

Strawberry Juice + Blueberry Strudel=RM14.90
Strawberry Juice
A bit sour but really freshly squeeze strawberry juice. Very nice!

Blueberry Strudel
I love it after one bite. The pastry is soft, not very sweet. The whip cream goes very nice with the pastries and blueberry. Just suit my taste. One isn't enough.

Red Devil-RM15.90
It is strawberry ice blended with milk plus whip cream and strawberry topping. The juice was thick and taste quite nice plus not too sweet either. I really hope KL have something like this. I will sure visit everyday. :D

Cameron Highlands really a nice place to visit for relaxation. The place was not that cold any more compare to last time. I really enjoy my days spent in Cameron. Oh no, it's time for me to go back to my daily routine of working in the busy and stress city! I want holidays! T.T

Cameron Trip-Day 2

Day 2 in Cameron, I got the map from the hotel and start our journey to explore whole Cameron.
To view the map, see previous post.
1st Station, we visit the Cactus Point.
You will not only see Cactus there but also different kind of flowers sold there too.

Cactus was sold around 6 for RM10 (small).

Second Station, S'Corner Central Market
Located right at the S shape of the road when you came from Equatorial hotel.
A place for the traders to sell their good there.
Inside were divided into small stalls for them to place their goods,
you will see quite a numbers of stalls selling the same items but different brands.
Strawberry plants were gated by fence, we can only watch from far.

Colourful mushrooms which is sold for RM8.

Third Station, Time Tunnel Gallery
Entrance fee: RM5 per person
Location: Beside Kok Lim's Strawberry Farm (Road between Kea Farm and Brinchang)
It is a museum about the history of Cameron Highlands.
There placed lots of old collections we see when we were young.
Barber Shop's chair and sewing machine
Pots, Pans and Cans hang on the ceiling.
We should use back the old way to teach our kids Mathematics!
I find it quite effective than memorizing the figure.

Fourth Station, Sam Poh Temple
Location: Brinchang, after Iris Hotel, opposite the Taman Agro Tourism there is a small road leading in.
It is built in 1972 at the hill which you can see the whole Brinchang from above. The place is very beautiful, seem like just have been renovated.
I walk into the temple hall and the floor is chill and cold. So nice and refreshing place.

Fifth Station, Taman Agro Tourism
I spotted from the big Advertisement board at the road side.
We thought of having a try since we passby, regret of going there.
Why? The road towards the place was quite dangerous.
Drive 45 degree up to the hill to find parking,
Drive 45 degree down the hill to go back town.
The place was really big and nice but the road to the place...T.T
Salad vegetable!
Grape on the ceiling!

Sixth Station, Cameron Valley Tea Plantation

Seventh Station, Highlands Apiary Farm
It is more known as Bee's farm.
You will still see lots of plants along the pathway.
They have make a special wooden box with those bees inside for the tourists to see more clearer.
You will still see bee flying around the place.
We bought some honey there, 3 for RM50 (Royal Honey and Propolis).

Eighth Station, Boh Tea Plantation
The most difficult place to drive in.
One road to the place with car from both side.
The most numbers of horn we played for our entire driving experience during the drive.
I love the fresh air and wind!
Boh's Factory

Beside's there's a cafe for you to try out their tea and have some tea break there.
With the environment and light wind blowing your face, nothing is much more perfect with a nice tea break.
Strawberry Tart-RM3.50
Look kind of hard outside, one bite make fall in love with it.
It is soft and crispy.

Butter Lemon Cake-RM3.80
Taste very nice too.

Palas Afternoon Tea-RM8.60 (2 person)
I like the taste but it was not thick enough to bring out the aroma. They should add more tea leaves in the pot.

The dog accompany us for the whole tea break. Very smart dog, they know we have the food!

We had a great day with tea as our companion for the whole journey.
At night, we went to have Steamboat at Brinchang town.
Charcoal Steamboat everywhere!
RM15 per person without drink.
Many waitress standing outside calling to pull customers to their shop.
Watch what you eat!
Just a reminder, if you think it is a buffet style steamboat, you are wrong!
they serve you the ingredients, you don't have the choice to choose.
You can only choose the soup base.
All ingredients will placed on the table. Any extra will be charge for RM5 per plate.
Kind of cheating people when they said all you can eat!
I rather eat from Hotel buffet's steamboat which costs only RM49++.

Cameron Trip-Day 1

It been a long time since I touches the ground of Cameron Highlands. More than 10 years for the first time I visit the place again. The memory I had was just the photos located in my mom's photo's album. Thanks to Groupon's deal, I manage to get hotel deal at a lower price.  There is 2 ways to reach Cameron Highlands which are from Simpang Pulai (Exit 307) and from Tapah ( Exit 302). I took the Simpang Pulai road which is much more further 30 minute than Tapah exit as the road is wider and safer.

Here is the map in Cameron Highlands. I suggest to print the map before you go as I cant find any free detail map in Cameron. The hotel only provide very brief map which do not state clearly of the places and roads. But basically Cameron only have 1 road to access to all towns, you won't get lost there.

Here's a map which I think is quite user friendly:

I reach there around 3pm as I can only checked in at 3pm. The room wasn't ready yet when I reached so I decided to go Brinchang town to have some late lunch.
Pasar Malam(Night Market) was one of the famous place to hang out there. It only open on Friday and Saturday at Brinchang town. You can spot it very clear once you reach the town as they started around 3pm until night with lots of stalls selling souvenir, flower, strawberry and snacks.

I went in to a restaurant named Wai Yat restaurant. They are a lot of restaurants at Brinchang town and famous for the steamboat. Every restaurant for sure they will have steamboat but with different pricing.

Kung Po Chicken with egg-RM7
The taste chicken taste very sweet, not the kung po chicken we usually eat.

Fried Rice with egg-RM6
Normal fried rice, nothing to said about, do not expect much.

Belacan Fried Dragon Beard-RM10
A special vegetable that introduce by the waitress. The taste again was sweet, the taste was not those belacan fried kangkung we use to have. But the vegetable was special, never see it in KL before.
The pricing was like KL price, not cheap at all.

Then, I went to visit the Pasar malam since some stalls had set up when I reached there.

Tanah Rata is another town after Brinchang which you can find more variety of food here other than Steamboat like Western food, Indian food, Japanese food and Chinese food. The only Starbucks Coffee is also located at Tanah Rata.
As I was walking around and taking photos, I found a stall selling handmade pouches, pencils box and etc outside a coffee shop. It is handmade by those Orang Asli. It range around RM 8-RM18.

Dinner time! I headed to Cameron Highlands Resorts for dinner although I stay in Equatorial Hotel. Why? Because there is the only Japanese restaurant in Cameron Highlands. I can't miss the chance to try out since 3 hours journey from KL.
It is named Gonbei Japanese Restaurant which is a sister to the Japanese restaurant in Starhill. Gallery in KL. At here, they have only 2 types of set menu, Western or Japanese. Under the Japanese sets, there are Shabu-shabu, Sukiyai, Teppanyaki and Steamboat. We took 1 set of Shabu-Shabu and 1 set of Teppanyaki.

Besides the set we order, we could also enjoy the buffet style items at the counter. There are some sushi, miso soup and other cold items as starter.

There are desserts too. Strawberry all over the place, how can they not serve strawberry. :)

My Shabu-Shabu is here with seafood set! All the ingredients were very fresh.

Extra ingredients you can mix in the shabu-shabu.

Teppanyaki set- Prawns, Fish Fillet and Chicken Fillet
I love this very much. the sauce they use to grilled it taste very very nice. Must Try!

Last dessert I had before I end my day.
It costs RM110++ per person. It is a bit expensive but all the ingredients used were quite high quality where it will cost more than that in KL. You may probably think that you can eat 9 times at Brinchang's steamboat but trust me, you can't find these fresh ingredients there. I think it is worth to have a try here.
