CNY Eve Reunion Course Dinner @ Goh Teo Kee

This year, we held our reunion dinner at another restaurant which is nearer to our house than last year. We went to Goh Teo Kee which located at Taman Sri Nibong there. We have book one month ago when we were back in Penang for holiday. There is only one choice for the 8 course dinner and another one will be the Pun Choy Set. We ordered the 8 course dinner which cost RM698+ for 10 pax excluding drinks. Total we pay RM768 for whole dinner, kind of expensive for Penang price. Even though, the price was not cheap, the place was packed and noisy, all the waiter and waitress were not organised at all. I did not really enjoy my meal that day. They hired those part time foreign worker to work that day as many Chinese worker were on leave. They do not even know how to serve or what we said to them. The restaurant really just think of earning rather than having a good reputation on their name.

Let see what is the 8 course dinner have:

Prosperous "Yee Shang" with Salmon
The Yee Shang taste exactly like those packed Yee Shang we found in supermarket. Not nice at all, no one actually want to finish it but we were force too because dad said Yee Shang have to finish up to have more money on that year.

Luxury Four Season
(King Prawn, Soft Shell Crab, Japanese Octopus, Assorted Nut)
I like this dish a lot especially the Japanese Octopus (my favourite). Soft shell crab was one of their speciality dish in the restaurant that we always order during normal days. So no complaint on this dish.

Stewed Pork Ribs with Chetnut and Soya Skin
This dish was not bad actually. I did not see any pork rib inside but small pieces of pork meat. The meat was soft and easy to chew especially for my grandmother. It taste quite nice too but not warm when served.

Dried Scallop Seafood Shark Fin Soup
This dish should be served third but the waitress messed up with all table's dishes. Luckily, dad did bring the leaflet they gave that day and we checked out they miss out our shark fin soup. Normal shark fin soup, nothing to shout about. I did bite a lot of shark fin, real or not, I'm not sure.

Steamed Sea Grouper Fish with Chef's Sauce
Many people do not like this fish because it is not catch directly from sea but breed in the sea. The skin is rough and tasteless, not like those fish from the deep sea which has skin that is smoother and sweeter. The price also cheaper. Chef's sauce equal to soya sauce. Special? Neh...

Braised Australian Abalone with Dried Oyster and Fatt-Choy
Again they missed our dish. I was the one whole night keep tracking the dishes we had, how can I enjoy my meal. Normal stir fried broccoli with slice abalone, dried oyster and fatt choy. A prosperity dish that must have during CNY. Taste: Normal.

Deluxe Waxed Meat Lotus Leaf Rice
No one touches this dish, either they are full or this dish taste bad. I was the one who ate the most as I was still hungry after 6 dishes. Why? I didn't eat much as I kept calling the waiter and become the waitress for my family that night. This dish taste not bad at all, just no fragrance and a bit flat taste. My mom cook a lot better than this that's why no one touches the dish. At the end, we ta bao back and mom use her recipe to re-cook the rice from tasteless to good in the next morning.

Tang Yuan in Almond Soup
Actually it should be Tang Yuan in Red Bean Paste Soup but they burnt the soup when they served, it has a very strong smell of burnt which my dad insists them to change another type of dessert for us. Really gave us a bad impression for their food quality

We finished all the dishes was around 10pm and seeing lots of "shows" there. So, next year reunion dinner will most probably held in Hotel than those restaurants that cut throat and wont serve delicious food on CNY eve.

Carl's JR. | Sunway Pyramid

I know I'm a bit outdated to find myself to try this place for now. Anyway, I'm finally here. Big burgers on the way..Woohooo...Carl's Jr Malaysia outlet actually started in 23rd of July 2007. They have been operate for more than 4 years in Malaysia and I just started to try it out now.:(

I ordered their combo set which came with a burger, fries and free flow drink. If you want a medium size, just add addition RM1.50 and add addition RM3.00 to have large combo.

Free flow drink such as soft drink, cold tea, ice lemon tea and coffee
The photo above is the medium size drink which just add another RM1.50.

You will have to order from the counter but they will give a a number and your cup to fill your drink yourself at the drink counter. The waiters will served you your burger and fries once ready.

Here's our meal! Natural-cut fries taste really great compare to Mcd fries. It taste more natural and do not feel like eating plastic.

Carl's Catch Fish Sandwich-RM13.45
The burger come with two crispy battered fish fillets, tartar sauce, crisp lettuce and tomatoes on a sesame  seed bun. I like this very much. The fish fillets really crispy and the potion was big. I can't manage to finish it all by myself.

Bacon Swiss Crispy Chicken Sandwich-RM18.45
This burger come with a crispy chicken fillet with melted cheese, crispy chicken bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and ranch sauce on the seeded bun. When I bite on the burger, first thing I heard was the crispy bite sound, it is the bacon really crispy and nice. I didn't really like the chicken fillet, a bit dry and it taste like chicken breast. overall the taste was great.

I still think the price was a bit pricey for burger although the potion was quite big.

Ding Tai Fung | Pavillion

Din Tai Fung- a world famous restaurant over 10 countries. Everyone should know by now that Din Tai Fung is famous for its Xiao Long Bao which is a soup-filled dumpling with at least 18 delicate folds. So far, I have not try it out yet as it is always packed during weekend. After seeing interview about Din Tai Fung by Xiao Yan Jie, I can not stop myself to have it a try. It is really that good?

I went on Friday after work at Pavillion's outlet. The place wast packed, but we are lucky to get a place when we reach.

Lo Hon Kor 罗汉果-RM3.80
Herbal tea after a hot day, not very sweet, just nice for me.

Xiao Long Bao 小笼包(6 pcs)-RM9.80
A must try dish when you visit this place. Xiao Long Bao was served in hot. The skin was thin, just nice to chew. Put the whole xiao long bao into the mouth, one bite, the soup will flash out into our mouth. Second bite, you can taste the tender meat which taste really nice. Delicious! I like the thin, translucent skin that wont break off when you use the chopstick to pick it up. It will stick onto the chopstick nicely.

Pork Chop Fried Rice-RM15.50
The pork chop is marinated with the Chinese 5 spice powder which is quite strong. I do not like the taste as it  smell kinda strong. The fried rice taste very normal, not quite up to my standard of a normal fried rice. It use egg, garlic and rice only. It do not have the fragrant of fried rice.

Shrimp Pork Fried Rice-RM15.00
The fried rice taste as the pork chop fried rice with added pork strips and shrimp. Although, my friend recommend that fried rice was good in the Taiwan's outlet, but Malaysia's outlet doesn't seem to get it right I think.

Golden Pumpkin with Salted Egg-RM10.80
It is deep fried slice pumpkin with salted egg. It is a bit salty but overall taste quite nice and unique.

Shrimp and Pork Shao Mai (6 pcs)-RM13.80
The skin was a bit thick compare to Xiao Long Bao. The technic use to make Xiao Long Bao is the same as this except they make the shape a bit different which can add a shrimp on top of it. When you eat, there is also soup inside the filling but the taste of the filling a bit different from Xiao Long Bao.

So far, only the Xiao Long Bao that impressed me. For other signature dishes, I can find much more better than those. I do not think there is anything good to shout about. I guess Malaysia have too many type of cuisine and good food we can find.

Boost Juice Bars | KLCC

I spotted the deal months ago in Groupon which offer 2 low fat smoothies or crushes fro only RM11 instead of RM22. Immediately bought the deal since have been waiting to try it out very long time. The deal gave me the chance to try out at the same help me save money too.:)

Mostly all may know that Boost Juice Bar is a famous juice bar in Australia. Malaysia bring it in as franchise. Thanks to them we do not need to fly to Australia to try it out. There are 10 outlets in KL, Selangor and Penang that we can redeem the drinks. Since my office is just opposite KLCC, I went KLCC to use my voucher. I have ordered Mango Tango Crust and Watermelon Lychee Crust.

Mango Tango Crust
Mango, Passion Fruit, Mango Nectar, Tropical Juice, Sorbet and ice
Mango was strong in the drink, sweet and sour from the passion fruit. Not quite my kind of drink. But those who prefer mango may have a go.
Watermelon Lychee Crust
Freshly juice Watermelon, Lychee, Sorbet and Ice
I personally like watermelon very much. Watermelon combine with lychee gave you a refreshing taste. Sweet watermelon with strong lychee fragrance.Nice!

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. | The Curve

I stopped by the Curve after some shopping in IKEA. Bubba Gump came by to my mind when I was thinking what to have for dinner. I have been trying to try out this place for months. As I remember there is another outlet in Sunway Pyramid which newly open. Anyway, I got The Curve outlet photo from their website. It is located on the first floor where you can directly take the staircase to reach the place.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is actually a theme restaurant inspired by the movie " Forest Gump", starring Tom Hanks. You will see a lot of Forest Gump sourvenirs in there. There is also a television near the counter where it will play the movie if you hasn't seen it before.

Since I'm first time to visit the place, the friendly waiter taught us how to use the signboard to call them. If you would like to call the waiter to serve you, just simply turn the signboard to " Stop Forrest Stop", they will come over immediately.

" Run  Forrest Run" mean keep doing what you are doing without any waiters to be disturb.

 Soft Drink(Free Flow)-RM7.90
There are lots of variety on drinks where you can even take their special glass home by paying RM18.90.

 Hush Pups-RM19.90
Tasty Shrimp and Fish with golden Corn, deep fried and served with a Remoulade Dippin' Sauce.
I just simply love this, crunchy and nice, every bite of shrimp and fish, yummy!

Crazy Cajun Chicken-RM28.90
Grilled boneless Chicken Thighs are lightly dusted with Cajun Spices and served over Seasonal Veggies and Mashed Potatoes.
I like this very much, the cajun sauce really suit the grilled chicken and make it taste great. Although it stated mashed potatoes but above it are strips of potato chips. When you taste the mashed potatoes, you can instantly smell the aroma of butter. It taste really good.

Barbecue Chicken-RM23.90
Delicious grilled Chicken with Barbeque Sauce served with Fries and Coleslaw
The grilled chicken were cold when served, I prefer to be served in hot. Two pieces of Chicken Thigh were served, 1 small and 1 big. The potion is enough for a medium size person. The taste was not bad, like those BBQ chicken with BBQ sauce. There is a logo on the menu stated as their famous dish for this but I don't think so.

Will I come back? I definitely will. I like the environment and the food.
