Rakuzen Japanese Restaurant | Subang Jaya

Let me bring you back to my favourite Japanese food which I have not reviewing about Japanese Food for one month now. My friend recommended me to try out this place after all it is quite famous in Subang. There are a few Japanese Restaurants that located the same row as Rakuzen and it might be a bit confusing on your choice of restaurant to visit. I was told that Rakunzen was the first Japanese Restaurant to start their business there and years by years, others restaurants build up. There are a few outlets in KL like Sri Hartamas and Empire Shopping Mall. In addition, Kura (One World Hotel) and  Hokkaido Ichiba (The Garden) are owned by them too. From all of the outlets, my friend still prefer the first outlet which is Rakuzen Subang.

It was quite packed that day when we arrived although the clock is showing 8.45pm. You can still see lots of people lining up to wait for their seat. There are two floors in the restaurants and we got ourselves the ground floor which is a bit noisy compare to the upper one.

I was browsing through their website and saw that they are having Autumn Special Dishes, you can view the menu below:

Let's look at what I have ordered during the visit.
Chuka Iidako-RM10
I just simply love Baby Octopus. I can't missed to order one since I'm in Japanese Restaurant. Although the plate they served was a bit small, but the size of the Baby Octopus aren't small at all. For that price and that size, I should have order more. Of course the Baby Octopus is fresh, it is really fresh. With some sesame of it,  it is irresistible!

S. Nameko Udon-RM18
"Nameko" mean a type of small amber brown mushroom that is normally cooked with miso soup. I love Udon's soup more than Ramen's soup, always clear and sweet. This potion is quite big for me, I did not manage to finish to whole bowl myself. But I really like it very much.

Salmon Skin-RM12
Crispy, crunchy, brittle and light. A flavourful snack to me. You can not stop eating it, it make you love it even more with every bite. A few drop of soya sauce onto the salmon skin add more flavour into it.

Spider Maki-RM22
Spider Maki is actually a rolled sushi filled with flavoured soft shell crab. It is served with mayonnaise on top and fish roe all over the roll. The potion is a bit small, only suitable for 2 person or even 1 person but the Maki is quite compact.

Unajyu Zen-RM48

Unajyu Zen is where Unagi is served on top of the rice with the sauce, a bit different from Unagi Zen where Unagi and rice are separated onto different plate and bowl. So, it really depends on one's taste whether to like it mix up or separate. My friend like the sauce to absorb into the rice which give more flavour to the whole dish. Unajyu Zen come with miso soup, chawan mushi, potatoes salad and fruits. My friend complaint about the potion that is getting smaller as the Unagi is only served one piece where last time they served two pieces. Overall the taste is still no bad.

Fish & Co. seafood in a pan | 1 Utama Shopping Centre

We went to Neway Karaoke Box the other day in 1 Utama. We came out and found a place to have dinner. *Tadaa* we walked and spotted this place. It was really packed at that time and we waited around 15 minutes to get ourselves a seat.

Fish & Co. is one of Sinagapore's Leading Restaurant Chains and expanded into Malaysia, Indonesia, Phillipines and the Middle East now. Fish & Co. began its operations in 1998 amidst the Asian regional economic crisis and was owned by two partners - Ricky Chew and Lambert Yeo. Driven by a passion to provide a unique dining experience, made memorable by outstanding service and customer care, the founders began conjuring the Fish & Co. dream. (taken from http://www.fish-co.com)

Soup of the day
We added RM7.50 when we order the main course with a soup of the day and a choice of their signature drink-Kola Tonic or Passion Fruit. I like the soup very much, very creamy mushroom soup with some bread crumbs in it. Really taste delicious!

Italian Fish & Chips-RM14.90
Fish & Chips stuffed with stringy mozzarella and spice in that lightly battered fish and topped with lemon butter sauce. How is the taste? Irresistible and yummy.

Seafood Platter for two-RM 48.90
Platter for seasonal fish, calamari, prawn and mussels in creamy garlic and lemon butter sauce, all served on a bed of rice and cheese. It is a very big potion that is enough for 3 persons instead of two. I love all of it no matter the fish or the prawn, the calamari or the mussels, all taste marvellous. I love the grilled fish, soft with great taste.

Going to come back for more very soon. I think it is much more better than the Manhattan Fish Market plus the price is quite reasonable too.

Alexis Bistro | Jalan Ampang

Finally I got the photos from my colleague to finish up my review for Alexis. Alexis is the place I came about and was suggested by some colleagues to celebrate Ginny's farewell. We visited the nearest outlet from our office which is located at Great Eastern Mall. The place is 5,000 sq ft. which can fit in 150 seats and private room with 24 seats.

Every Friday and Saturdays night, Alexis Bistro brings you live jazz performances showcases internationally renowned musicians and local legends. The performances normally start around 10pm.

Caesar Salad-RM19
Served with beef bacon and parmesan

Baked Button Mushroom-RM16
Fresh button mushroom with the special cheesy sauce, taste really nice. Must Try!

Angelhair Aglio Olio-RM 40
with grilled yabbies, extra virgin oil
My first impression for this dish is another "nice look but not to eat" dish. I always believe that simply dish decorated with expensive ingredients won't bring good taste to the dish. This indeed appear to this dish. The taste doesn't match the grilled yabbies at all.

Linguine Vongole-RM34
served with fresh clams and chardonnay sauce

Lightly Fried Calamari Rings-RM18
Everyone love fried calamari and this did not disappoint us and we ordered 2 plates.

Chilli Salt Chicken Wings-RM16
The marinated chicken meat is tender and juicy, combination with chilli makes a interesting dish.

Ai Frutti Di Mare-RM38
served with seafood, tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh herbs
Thin crust pizza with lots of seafood on top but it is lacking of flavour. I guess they too emphasize on the seafood where they missed the important part which is the pizza dough and tomatoes paste.

Tiramisu-RM15
It was highly recommended by my colleagues, a must try dessert if you are in Alexis. I got shocked at first when looking at the cake. I never thought that Tiramisu could have fancy look with nuts all over it. It look very nice and taste not bad too.

Pavlova-RM15
I like this cake compare to Tiramisu, although both share the same sweetness. The crispy crust on the outer and light and soft inner with berries just can not resists to have one more bite.

Restaurant Jeonju Myoungga, Korean BBQ | Seri Hartamas

I bought a voucher on Korean food from Everyday.com.my in July. However, I managed to spare time to visit the place 2 days before the voucher expired. It is located at Desa Sri Hartamas and the location is very easily to be spotted because of it big and bright signboard. The name of the restaurant is Jeonju Myoungga which takes after a very famous restaurant brand in Jeonju. Jeonju is located in South Korea and it is famous for its Korean food. Besides, the owner and his wife were born in Jeonju.

I purchased for Korean Full Set Meal Jeonju Baek Ban for 2 persons at RM27 (original price RM55).

What I get from the Set Meal are:
  • Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew)
  • Doenjang Jjigae (Bean Paste Stew)
  • Steamed Egg
  • Stir-fried Spicy Pork
  • Grilled Fish
  • 8 Side Dishes
  • 2 Steam Cooked Rice
The meal come with cold water that I could refill for two time. However, the water was more than enough for both of us.

8 side dishes that we could refill.  Those 8 side dishes are kimchi, crab stick, fried groundnut and anchovies, fried bean sprout, fried long bean, boiled carrot and potatoes, wakame seaweed and kimchi pineapple.

Grilled Fish
This Korean Grilled Fish just look like those deep fried fish, but the fish does not bring crunchiness like it looks like to be.  It taste very normal, nothing much to boost about.

Doenjang Jjigae ( Bean Paste Stew)
Doenjang Jjigae is one of the traditional Korean stewed dish made with fermented soybean paste. The distinctive taste of this dish makes it distinguishable from other stews. It taste really good. I personally like it very much. Do not miss this all-time favourite dish!

Steamed Egg
 Simple and yummy egg dish.

Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew)
Kimchi Jjigae is a stewed dish made with kimchi along with other ingredients such as tofu, pork and vegetable. It is rich in flavour and best to have with rice. I personally do not quite fancy this kimchi stew as it make me feel thirsty.

Stir-fried Spicy Pork
This dish is prepared with the Korean red pepper paste. It is a spicy Korean food. For Malaysians out there, it is totally palatable to your taste bud! I love it very much.

Korean Steamed Rice
The rice are more sticky than those normal Malaysian rice we had. One bowl is enough to make you feel full for the whole night.

Pajeon (Korean Pancake)
Pajeon is a pancake-like korean dish with green onion as its prominent ingredient. The pajeon is a bit oily but it taste quite nice. Pajeon was not listed in the voucher, I guess it is an additional complimentary dish from the restaurant.

Overall I like the place and food, I guess I'll be coming back very soon.
