Gold Leaf Village Restaurant | Klang

Last Sunday was Father's day but we didn't celebrate as brother was at work so we decided to postpone to another week. So this week, we decided to go to Klang for a change.  We came to this restaurant again after two years that is once had been review by Astro's TV programme-Ah Xian and have been very packed after his review. However, the business have been slowdown. We went around 1pm but the place was not full at all, only around 2 tables are occupied. This place used to be very packed and we always has to go upstairs but not this time.

Stir Fried Spinach-RM8
A very normal and simply dish but it came out to be quite disappointed.

Stir Fried Sweet and Sour Fish-RM25
This is good, better than my expectation. They use fresh fish fillet rather than those dory fish and cooked it with sweet and sour sauce.

Mamic Chicken-RM14
I can not imagine even my canteen's Mamic Chicken is better than this one. It taste bitter rather than sweet, it is weird to have bitter taste in chicken. I'm not sure what the chef got wrong in this dish but it is the last dish we want to finish.

Fried Pumpkin with salted egg-RM12
I like this dish. Crispy fried pumpkin cover with salty egg make it taste a bit salty but overall still a delicious dish.

Henry Cook | SS2 Mall (CLOSED)

This shop no longer in business any more. But you may still have a look on what they have offered previously!
..................

Yesterday, I went to SSTwo Mall to try out some Nyonya food. I was caught in the jam at the roundabout which is around Sin Chew Jit Poh there for more than 30 minutes. The authorities are demolishing the roundabout to build traffic light plus a big tree collapsed and block the road to SSTwo Mall making the whole road jam like shit.

So, I went to this restaurant named Henry Cook which is located at Lower Ground of SSTwo Mall. It is very easy to be spot where you can see it from the door to the outside of the Mall. With the big and bright red colour of the signboard, I do not believe you can not spot it.

So, here is the story of Henry Cook. It was started by Jeremy’s dad, Henry Teo who is one of the top chefs in the renowned Hyatt Hotel with a talent for curving ice sculptures. By putting together his vast experiences in western food and Peranakan food (he's a 2nd generation Nyonya), he established Istanbul Gourmet in 1995 which served a wicked range of fusion food as a small take away stall at Simei Mall. Now they are celebrating their 15th anniversary with two outlets in Singapore. After the two successful outlet, Jeremy, the owner brings in their family business to Malaysia where the first outlet now located at SS2 Mall.

The decorations and designs of the restaurant are different from the one in Singapore but the food is exactly the same with the true recipe from his dad. All the food are personally cook by Jeremy himself with two assistants.

Write your order on the given paper so that they will take your order.

Temporarily menu was given to us as their menu book still on the way and would probably out on Monday. More variety of food will be carried out from their new menu as for now they only have around 10 types of food.

Currently, they are also having a promotion of set meal which is only RM15++ with a drink + main course (rice special or chicken Donar Kebab) + soup of the day + ice-cream.

Jeremy introduced us 3 of their famous dishes and gave us a drink while waiting for our food.
Fruit Punch-RM4.00
I love this drink, not too sweet, just nice. After you drink it, I bet you want for more.
  Must Try!

Henry Laksa-RM6.50 (without egg), RM8.00 (with egg)
It stated on the menu " no one leaves Henry Cook without try our Legendary Singapore Laksa topped with kebab chicken, fish cake, bean sprouts, laksa leaves and sambal chilli." I could said it is true. I am a very picky person especially for Laksa but it gave me very good impression on this dish. It taste like the Thai Laksa we normally find in Thai fair but this one is good. But I do found it taste a bit weird with the Kebab on it as the chicken has a strong taste of spices which I personally think it do not suit the Laksa gravy.

Roasted Chicken Kebab with Yellow Fragrant Rice and mix salad-RM11.00
I have no comment to the Chicken Kebab as that is what they are specialise on it and it is really good. But it is the rice that make me could not want to finish it. The yellow rice was a bit hard although with smell of Indian spices adding on top the brown sauce that taste sweet (more like tomato sauce mix with soya sauce) just doesn't match at all. At first, I thought it is the Nasi Briyani that normally we will eat it with Kebab or Fried Spices Chicken but it is not. I was told it is just yellow rice cook with a lot of Indian spices then topped with the brown sauce. The mix salad was a bit salty but still acceptable, with celery on it just doesn't make it my dish.

Stuffed Chicken Roll-RM15.60(with yellow fragrant rice)
                                    -RM16.50(with baked herb potatoes)
This is their award winning dish at Food Asia in 1980s. Only use the most juicy part of chicken which is the chicken thigh with stuffing and marinated with their secret recipe and oven cooked. Then topped with Henry Cook’s Signature dressing and brown sauce with crisp lettuce and mixed salad. I love this dish the most. I prefer the baked herb potatoes than the yellow rice although both topped with the brown sauces but I personally think that the brown sauces suit the potatoes more than the rice. The chicken thigh was tender and juicy. Must try!

All of the dishes are big potions, I guess small eaters should bring someone along to share. With that price and quality, I think it is really worth of money to have a meal there. I will be back soon for their new menu. For more information, you can find them at their Facebook or www.isgourmet.com

Super 8

I went to watch this movie yesterday as we can't make it on time to watch X-men movie. I did not know neither the storyline of the movie nor did I watch the trailer. I knew it is some kind of children movie. But to my surprise, the story came out to be quite good. The movie combines many different thing s that make it fun in a new respective way. They did a great job in making the movie looks like it really exist in the 80’s and it feels incredibly new. The group of kids put together making the movie a great success.  I just knew that the movie was just released on 9 June but it wasn't that recognised compare to X-men. However, it sure to be one great movie that not to be missed.

Actually the whole story was about the group of young friends who were filming a Super-8 movie when a pickup track derails a speeding train. The cargo train endures a spectacular crash before it reaches its final destination; the cargo and its fate remains a mystery. Then they realised the man in the truck was their biology class teacher Dr. Woodward. Dr. Woodward told the kids not to tell anyone about the incident happened or else their family will be in great danger. After that,  the US Air Force closed a section of Area 51. All materials were to be transported by train to a secure facility. When the locals start to disappear and even the inquisitive deputy can't come up with answers, suspicions emerge that the incident was anything but an accident. As the truth finally begins emerge, no one is prepared to learn what now stalks the unsuspecting citizens of this once quiet community.

From the movie, we can learned how cruel and selfish a human can be to the monster or alien that just wanted to go back to his origin place. Humans are the one who destroy his transportation so that they can examined him and used it in their military and then he can be one of the strongest weapon in human kind. I like the ending of the story (finally I can watch a movie that have an ending) where finally the monster can be transport back to his place.

Here is the Movie's trailer:

Claypot Station Restaurant 煲煲香| Kota Damansara

I was lucky to be invited to have lunch in this restaurant yesterday. So I went with my brother after a time rushing to get back my laptop at Lowyat. This restaurant is located at Kota Damansara which is just behind of Sunway Giza and same row with Kayu Nasi Kandar. It is not hard to find but the sharp blue signboard make it hard to see when the sun shinning at it.

This restaurant have been operated around 3 years now. All they served are Claypot dishes, plus from the menu it look like more to Hakka food. We reach there around 1.50pm (promise to be there at 1.30pm) since I don't have sense of direction (said my brother), we got lost there.

Currently, the shop is having promotion of 15% for all UOB card holder when they spend on ala carte with minimum of RM50. Another deal for UOB card holder that I saw for this months.

Although we came a bit late which is after lunch time but I was surprise to find the place was empty and we are the only customers there. I guess people here have breakfast and lunch together in the late morning.

We were introduced by the owner of the restaurant a few types of their famous dishes since the menu shows a lot of dishes and a bit confusing for me to see so many words in it.

Herbal Tea-RM2.00
I was planning to order hot tea but instead the owner introduced me their herbal tea. So I proceed with the Herbal Tea to see what so special about it (thinking it maybe like Fireman's Herbal Tea with lotus roots) but it came out to be very normal Herbal Tea that I don't taste any herbal on it instead of sugar syrup. I'm sorry to say that to the owner.

Fa Tiu Chicken (华彫鸡)-RM12.90(S), RM18.00(M), RM 24.00(L)
It taste good, it will be good to those who like strong favoured dish.

Fried Tau Fu c/w Dried Prawn (虾米豆腐)-RM7.90
I found it quite special, as you can see they cut the Tau Fu into 2 pieces and deep fried it. After that, they put it together again then served it with dried prawn on top of it. Where else, normally we see whole piece of Tau Fu served. However, the taste was very mild, it will be tasteless when you eat it with rice.

Fried Egg with Shark Fin(鱼吃炒蛋)-RM12.90(S), RM18.00(M), RM24.00(L)
I personally never try Shark Fin with fried egg before but more to Dong Fen with fried egg that normally cook by my mum at home. The shark fin served a lot on top of the egg, seem like they really put enough ingredient in this dish but I still found the taste to be a bit mild especially when I eat it with rice. I feel tasteless when eating it. I guess it is more suitable for people who consume less salt.

Asam Curry Fish Fillet (亚参加哩鱼片)-RM12.90(S), RM18.00(M), RM24.00(L)
I love the Asam Curry, very strong flavoured. It taste like those Asam Laksa but thicker gravy. However with the fish fillet, it is a bit disappointed. I was told they use Dory Fish as the fish fillet. I think they should use fresh fish fillet like snapper or others which will give an advantage to the dish. 'Cos I always think that Dory fish is only best consume in Fish n Chips or other pan fried dishes but not strong flavoured dishes.

Butter Cream Pork(牛油肉)-RM14.90(S), RM22.00(M), RM28.00(L)
I personally love butter cream dishes no matter it is served with pork or chicken. This butter cream pork dish is quite special as it served with You Tiao. The dish was nice but it is overly sweet. I'm not sure whether this dish should be served in sweet or the opposite as I know I usually eat is in salty way not sweet way.

Sweet and Sour (Vinegar) Pork Leg(猪脚醋)-RM14.90(S), RM22.00(M), RM28.00(L)
We did not try this dish as both of us do not eat this kind of dish but it was said by the owner that it was one of the famous dish in this restaurant. Maybe I 'll try this dish when bring my parent there next time.
