The Manhattan FISH MARKET Students' License to privileges! (continue)

Still remember the promotion that organised by The Manhattan Fish Market for students? Here!
So I went today to try out their promotion with my student card.I read some complaint about the promotion where a lot of students are not satisfied with the portion of seafood 101. But unfortunately I have forgotten to order the Seafood 101 instead I have ordered Cala ala Olio. Anyway, I saw other table order Seafood 101 and the portion was quite big compare to those I saw from the complaint photos. I guess Queensbay Mall outlet still provide reasonable portion compare to KL outlet. This maybe the reason they are always packed during lunch hours.

Here is Cala ala Olio. It taste not bad, a bit spicy due to the dry chili included 3 pieces of fried squid on top of it. Anyway, the drink is bottomless. Best thing is we only need to pay RM10! not more or less.

D'Grows Inn Cafe (Crystal Point) | Everyday Coupon

Thanks to Everyday.com.my that I have the chance to meet my bunch of "makan kaki" even during our busy day preparing for exam. It feel so good to have a nice gathering with my friends and with this coupon gave me opportunity to try new food in new place with good bargain.
It is my 1st time to visit this place although I have been passing by Crystal point almost everyday. It is really hard to notice this place except you really search for it. It is actually located beside El Mondo restaurant  and it is called D'Grows Inn Cafe.

Here's a brief description of this cafe that i pick from everyday.com:
Two humble and ambitious young ladies have come together and setup this humble restaurant – D’Grows Inn. D’Grows Inn specialized in Western and Japanese fusion. As you enter the restaurant, you will receive warn greetings from Ms Chook and her team. Her team will take care of you and make you felt at home. You will enjoy your meal in casual and comfortable environment. It really makes me felt like dinning at home without the hassle and basal of cooking and washing up. That makes D’Grows Inn a great place for family, friends and colleagues to relax and enjoy their dinner.Ms Ghee is a professional cook with great passion in culinary. She has brought home cooking with sumptuous portion for you to enjoy in a restaurant environment. No fancy and artificially presentation and dressing up.

So, I bought the coupon and the coupon provide 4 course meals that is soup of the day, main course, free flow of the drink and house dessert of the day. I got very good deal, for all this I only pay RM8.50 (np: RM20.25).

Main Course Choice:
  1. Bombay Fish (14.90)
Grilled fillet fish marinated with Cajun and served with our chef special Bombay sauce, wedges and daily fresh vegetables.
  2. Fish & Chips (14.90)
Deep fried fish fillet in bread crumbs served with tartars source, chips and daily fresh vegetables.
  3. Wasabi Fish (14.90)
Grilled fillet of fish served with creamy wasabi sauce, wedges and daily fresh vegetables.
  4. Mushroom Fish (14.90)
Grilled fillet of fish served with mushrooms sauce, wedges and daily fresh vegetables.
But if we didn't like the above choice, there is also a range of ramen for us to choose or we could also upgrade the main course from their menu and pay the balance. Some of my friends choose to upgrade the main course as they are chicken lover.

Let see what we had for our dinner:
Soup of the day- Mushroom soup
Taste very normal, more like mushroom soup from the can

Free Flow Drink of the day (Orange or Kiwi)

Salmon Butteryaki-RM20.90
Taste not bad but the sauce is a bit sweet

Fish and Chips-RM14.90
I must said the fish was not proper cook as the meat was still raw but we didn't complain about it. I guess it was not properly defrost when they cook. It is superbly oily, the whole skin was full of oil instead of crunchiness.

The Chef's Bombay Chicken Chop-RM 16.90
The chicken was very small and it is very spicy. The chips was overly fried. I guess it wasn't taste like the name stated.

Dessert of the day- chocolate ice-cream
"It is the best we get today" said my friends. I guess they have high expectation for the cafe when coming here since it is me who introduced to them. I guess I had disappointed them. So sorry, guys.

The place was not bad, environment was good, a good place for gathering but the food is a bit disappointing. They need more improvement in their food to continue the business as I see the place was quite empty when we arrived and it is Friday night. Just an opinion from me. But anyway, thanks again to everyday.com for such offer that we are able to try out this place.

Charlie Brown Cafe- Strait Quay

The first Charlie Brown in Malaysia is now in Penang, Strait Quay. I didn't manage to go for their 1st day opening at 9th April 2011. But it seem to disappoint lots of people on their soft launch, no air-con, everything is mess up? Alright, I went with my bunch of makan kaki this time. I am a fan of Charlie Brown, can't wait to introduce all these to you all. Anyway, order are make upon the counter, just like a fast-food restaurant concept and you will be given a number for your order.
Charlie Brown's carpet on the front door..look like a cookies to me..

Above photo are the different pictures on the table in the cafe. Each tables represented by one character.

Once you step inside, you can see all the walls and even the ceiling are full with Charlie Brown's characters. I can feel like Charlie Brown is alive and standing beside me no matter where I stand. Videos are played in cafe in 2 different places but very surprising as it was played in Chinese instead of English.

Let's look at the food in the cafe, but it was really disappointed me. The price was not par with the quality of the food. I guess many was complaint about it since the opening day. I think they need to hired more professional chefs in the cafe, at least not the one they have now.

New York Cheese-RM6.80
Not bad but it is tasteless. Not even a smell of cheese from it.

Lemon Cheese-RM6.80
One bite triggered my nerve as it is so sweet. I cant taste any lemon on the cheese cake but more to sugar on the upper layer that looks like jelly.

I have ordered their special beverage that day-Chocolate Soya which costs me RM11.00. It taste soya more than chocolate, quite special. My friends ordered a Chocolate drink-RM9.50 and a Coffee Mocha-RM11.00. All of us got the same picture of Lucy, I guess they saw all of us are girls (except KZ) so they specially draw Lucy for us.

Anyway, all the hot beverages will come with a drawing of either Charlie brown or Lucy. Snoopy is still on the way (the counter lady said). So order yourself a hot chocolate or hot coffee to get picture of them on your drink.

Soda Delight: Apple Mint-RM10.00

Spaghetti Chicken Bolognese-RM15.80
(but from the bill is RM17.20 without tax, which is correct?)
Taste bad. The spaghetti is very dry (do the chef know he have to put some oils while boiling the spaghetti?) The gravy taste very weird. It is like mixing tomato paste from the can directly with some chicken meat.

After all the disappointment  to me on this cafe, will I come back? Oh yes, I love Charlie Brown too much, I will come back to see him for more. I guess I will just order a drink next time and sit there enjoy my time with him.

El Mondo Italian and Western Cuisine

I went to meet up a friend from KL today and I manage to bump into this restaurant called El Mondo. Just right for me to review it since I have been planing to visit this place before I go back KL. “El Mondo” means El World of food. El Mondo established its 1st outlet at Krystal Point since September 2007 and now they have 2 more outlets in Penang which locate at E Gate and Tanjung Bungah. I went to EGate outlet and the environment looks great.

Here's a link to look at the menu.
 Mushroom Soup-RM12.90
I love the soup, it taste very special. It don't taste like the normal mushroom I always get. Homemade mushroom soup from them I guess. Besides, when you order the soup, it came with 2 pieces of garlic bread. See below photo. It is perfect to have the bread with the soup. Really nice! Must try!

 Spaghetti Aragosta- RM 25.90
A bit spicy but taste good too. The spaghetti came with prawn and chicken meat. I think it is a bit small portion.
Pizza El Mondo-RM28.90
Taste not bad but the dough a bit hard to chew. Not really special. We choose Pizza El Mondo because it is the same as the restaurant name but I guess it does not taste up to my expectation.

Kek Seng Coffeeshop-Penang Road

It was a hot day after a busy routine. My parent came to Penang for "Qing Ming" and dad suddenly suggested to go to a old place of his and a new place for us. It is located at Penang Road where it is actually some shop lots at the middle of main  road. Therefore, it is hard to find parking as it is main road (you can't park in the main road, sure get bang by car) but dad know his way and park inside some small road. The name of the old kopitiam is Kek Seng, it has established since 1906(wrote on the signboard). My dad always came here when he was young. So what is it special about this kopitiam?

Oh yes, ice kacang, ice cream. It is famous for its durian ice cream. I ordered ice kacang with durian ice-cream. the price i think is RM4.00. The taste of the durian ice-cream not bad but I still like the one in OUG night market. The jelly was taste bad, it taste sour, I am not sure whether the original taste is like that but my brother like it very much. Overall still quite alright not very sweet. As I am not a fan of ice kacang so can't really differentiate whether it is super duper nice or not.

Lok Bak, Prawn fritters, Chinese sausage and Fried crab ball-RM5.70
It is nice at least the best one so far I eat in Penang. Very hard now days to find nice lok bak in Penang although Penang one of the famous dish is lok bak. Prawn fritters taste very nice too but a bit small.

Laksa-RM3.00
I love laksa especially my mom one but this one taste quite similar to my mom's laksa. To me I think it is good. Must try!

Popiah-RM2.50 (2 pieces)
I guess this Popiah is famous since I saw a few newspaper cutting paste on the stall. I like it very much, the original Penang Popiah that came with soup. The taste is exactly the same as the taste I had when I was young (sound so old..wahaha..). Must try!

I cant provide any map as I still don't really know where is the location. Maybe you can google it.

台湾风味情(Taiwan Fast Food) -One Stop Midland

I have a gathering here after the place we supposed to held no electricity. Taiwan Fast Food is the name of the restaurant. There is 2 outlet for this restaurant- Gurney and Midland. We went to the Midland Park outlet because I recall the place is not that crowded and suitable for us big group to have gathering. It is located at Pulau Tikus opposite Adventis Hospital. I like the place, cozy and warm, just nice for a cup of tea after a busy day.

I like this drink section especially when I order for pearl milk tea, I can see how the waitress there use a special machine to make the milk tea...and it come with a sound..gong gong gong..

Currently they are having a promotion for member card holder, for any 4 set meals you order, you will get a side order for free. To be a member card holder, you just have to pay RM5 for whole life and you can enjoy 10% discount for all food and drink every visit.

The meal came with set and ala carte. Most of us order set because it is came with a drink (6 choices), a soup, a dessert (cake) and main dish. Here are the sets we have ordered, besides we get 3 free side dishes since we have order 14 set meals. Just a recommendation to you all if you visit here, try the pearl milk tea, it is thick and taste very good. I was impressed when I first taste it, better than Chatime milk tea that I loved.

RM6.90 (ala carte), RM11.90 (set)
